SECARGO Project
Objective
Test capabilities for monitoring the South Equatorial Current westward mass and heat transports in the upper 1000m into the Coral Sea. Argo profilers provide temperature-salinity relationship; XBT probes are deployed repeatedly from a commercial ship between Noumea and Honiara. A hydrographic cruise took place in May 2010.
Participants and support
- C. Maes (PI); S. Cravatte, D. Varillon, A. Ganachaud, W. Kessler, S. Riser, D. Swift, R. Lumpkin, G. Eldin, L. Gourdeau
- Support by IRD, the French GMMC (SECARGO) and LEFE-IDAO (Solwara). Collaboration LEGOS/Toulouse; LEGOS/IRD-Noumea and University of Washington (UW-Argo)

Data availability:
Data are available on the Coriolis data center
Plans
- 2 HR-XBT deployments/year (depending on probe availabilities)
- Regular Argo seeding; depending on current Argo density
